With the continued internationalization of China, an increasing number of foreigners are settling down in China for work and career development. In order to apply for a work permit card and permanent residence card in China, the local authorities require a health certificate. But how can one obtain these necessary certificates?
A health check certificate must be issued by an qualified healthcare center in your working city. The health certificate is valid for six months from the date of issuance. A new one is required after the expiration date.
Once at the healthcare center, applicants undergo a series of medical checks. These typically include tests for HIV antibodies, syphilis, and chest X-rays, among others. The purpose is to ensure that the applicant meets the health standards set by the Chinese government. If applicants have valid and complete medical records from their home country, they may not need to repeat these tests. However, if any records are missing or invalid, additional tests will be required.

Documents and Process
Make an appointment at your local Travel Healthcare Center for your Health Check Certificate and bring the relevant documents: passport, two 2-inch color photos, records of physical examination in the country of origin within six months, and original blood/ECG/chest X-ray reports (if any).
Verification of Documents: If you have any records of physical examination and related reports from your country of origin within six months (all documents should be original), please submit them to the staff for verification. The doctor will check the existing medical examination data. Those with complete and valid data do not need to undergo another medical examination; those with missing data must take additional examination items; those with invalid data must take a full set of medical examination.
Records Include: HIV antibody test, syphilis TRUST test, chest X-ray, and other reports. They are valid for six months from the date of the report. Items that should be examined according to the major international epidemic announcements issued by the Chinese government.
If a foreigner is required to complete the medical examination, he/she is required to complete all the items of the medical examination on the same day and can wait for the certificate to be issued by the organization after the medical examination is completed.
Exemption Conditions
High-end Foreign Talents (Category A): The honor system can be used in some cases, but a supplementary medical certificate still needs to be submitted after entering the country.
Residence Permits with Existing Validity: If a valid work-type residence permit already exists and the individual did not leave the country during the permit validity period, they are exempted from submitting a medical certificate.
Change of Workplace: If the workplace has not changed and the residence permit is valid, a medical certificate is exempted.
