The Client
A Nordic OEM building a 1 GW offshore-wind nacelle plant in Ningbo. Needed a director to stand up end-to-end supply chain—sourcing, logistics, customs, ERP—in 12 months.
The Challenge
• Bilingual P&L owner: must negotiate with European suppliers and Chinese state-owned steel mills.
• Regulatory: experience with GB/T wind-tower standards and bonded-zone logistics.
• Speed: plant groundbreaking in 8 weeks.
Our Approach
• Built a “long-list” of 34 supply-chain VPs from Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, Goldwind, CRRC.
• Filtered for those who had led green-field factory ramp-ups > $200 M CAPEX.
• Submitted 5 profiles; client flew to Shanghai for face-to-face interviews at our office.
Outcome
Offer: $200 k base + 20 % completion bonus. Candidate locked tier-1 suppliers 4 weeks ahead of schedule, saving an estimated $1.8 M in freight expedite fees.
